Background
Subashini graduated from the University of London in 1995 with an LL.B (Hons.). She was called to the English Bar by the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn in 1996 and admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in March 1998.

Subashini handles admiralty and general commercial litigation matters. She has been involved in various charter party and bills of lading disputes. These include claims for demurrage where it was necessary to do calculations for the time the vessel was on demurrage and also claims by holders of bills of lading for delivery of cargo without production of bills of lading. Subashini has also handled ship repair claims and crew claims under the admiralty jurisdiction of the High Court.

Subashini regularly assists the senior partners on matters before the High Court and the Court of Appeal. She has assisted Mr Haridass on a claim for misdelivery of cargo valued at US$3 million, ex-partner Mr Randhir Chandra on a trial in relation to survey equipment and Ms Sharmini Yogarajah on a trial on breach of contract and fraudulent misrepresentation. She has also assisted Mr R Srivathsan on a claim for refusal and/or delay in issuing bills of lading and enforcement of rights pursuant to the Contracts (Right of Third Parties) Act (Cap 53B).

Subashini is familiar with the procedure for arrest of vessels in Singapore. In addition, she has worked on matters in which the clients have required the arrest of vessels, for security, in other jurisdictions such as Calcutta, India and Malaysia.

The claims she has assisted on have also dealt with documentary credits, as a result of which Subashini has also prepared for and attended injunction applications.

Subashini has dealt with various debts recovery matters and is familiar with enforcement procedures including bankruptcy, winding-up, garnishee applications and writs of seizure and sale. She has also worked as part of a team of lawyers in obtaining an order for Judicial Management.
