Background
Thomas graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1987 with an LL.B (Hons.) and was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 1988. He became a partner in 1994.

Thomas is primarily a litigation lawyer with a concentration of interest in admiralty and shipping matters, marine insurance and sale of goods transactions. In addition, Thomas has also represented client in general commercial disputes, including joint ventures and partnerships. He also handles these cases in the courts and arbitration, and is actively involved in mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.

More specifically, Thomas handles matters in and relating to all aspects of:

  • Admiralty and shipping matters, including wet and dry cargo claims,
    all types of charter party disputes, collisions, salvage and general average and bunkering disputes.
  • Marine insurance, including both claims under hull and machinery policies and cargo policies.
  • The sale of goods, including claims involving a variety of goods, for example, mineral oil, vegetable oils such as palm oil, soya bean oil and their derivatives, and bulk cargo such as steel products, grain and coal.

Ship repair and shipbuilding claims, including claims for simple non-payment of repair charges to disputes over the construction of a new building.
