Background
Hariharan graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1988 with an LL.B (Hons.). He was admitted to the Singapore Bar, as an Advocate and Solicitor, in 1989. He has also been appointed as an authorised counsel for Tuvalu, Kiribati and Niue and has issued numerous legal opinions to financial institutions on the laws of these three Pacific Island states particularly in the field of ship mortgages. He is a Fellow of the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators, a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a panel arbitrator within the Law Society of Singapore Arbitration Scheme.

Hari is the co-author of the section on “Singapore” for the publications “Getting The Deal Through – Shipping”, “Getting The Deal Through – Shipbuilding” and “Getting The Deal Through – Ship Finance”.

Hari heads the Ship Sale and Purchase and Ship Finance practice of the firm and also handles conveyancing work. Hari supervises the company secretarial department in the firm which handles the company secretarial work for a large number of Singaporean and offshore incorporated companies and the conveyancing department.

Hari deals primarily with non—contentious admiralty matters specializing principally in sale and purchase, chartering and financing of vessels. In this regard, Hari’s clients include financial institutions, shipowners, foreign counsel and very often Singapore law firms which do not handle work in this specialized field. Hari advises on the structuring of ship sale and purchase and ship finance deals, the documentation and registration aspects connected therewith and the marine insurance issues principally the requirements for the hull and machinery, protection and indemnity and mortgagee interest insurances.

Hari has traveled widely in South-East Asia, the Far East, the Indian sub-continent, the Middle-East, Australia, New Zealand and Western Europe for both the negotiation and closing of ship sale and purchase and finance transactions on behalf of financiers and shipowners.

Hari is also actively involved in the negotiation and drafting of ship/rig construction contracts and ship-repair contracts, His clients in this area include many of the major shipyards in Singapore.

Hari also deals with contentious and non-contentious probate work as well as conveyancing, commercial joint-venture work and general solicitor’s work of all types. Hari is a Commissioner for Oaths and a Notary Public.
